Week of 2/4-2/8

We completed our reading on Corrie Ten Boom and began reading about George Muller.

We received our new Science and Social Studies textbooks and began exploring them. We talked about the homeschool Science fair at McWane center and pulled a few ideas off the web. We also searched for unique ideas for the Valentine Card Box competition with our homeschool group.

We read about Pecos Bill in Reading and also began our Accelerated Reader book reports. Kayti is doing hers on The Dollhouse Murders by Betty Ren Wright and Brooke is doing hers on Horses by Seymour Simon. Both are already done with the books and are putting the finishing touches on the reports.

Both completed Lesson 17 in Spelling at their own grade levels, several pages in their Writing and Grammar textbooks and did an exercise in finding items in the newspaper.

Math is still going well, though Brooke bombed her test on Thursday. Kayti generally messes up her daily work and does well on her tests! LOL

Kayti's vocabulary words were: adviser, counterfeit, nuisance, reliable, vacate, deceive, yearn, anniversary, opponent and halo.

Brooke's vocabulary words were: derby, optimism, version, unintelligible, glaze, bleary, annual, priority, manuscript, and yarn (which is not the kind of yarn you crochet with!) Both girls aced their vocabulary quizes.

We also started a small Co-op for Spanish with a few sweet friends from our homeschool group. We're using the Spanish for Children curriculum from McGraw-Hill. We met at my house this week and had tacos for lunch after we were done. Next week, we'll meet at Donna's and have nachos.
