Scary Sunday...

So Saturday night, Jeff & I did not get finished with our shopping but we did make a huge dent in it. Our plans for Sunday were to get up, go to Bass Pro and finish up. But around 11:30 I got a call from Jeff's brother, Ricky. Thank you, God for letting me be the one to pick up the phone!

Jeff's grandfather--the one who just celebrated his 70th (yes 70! I still can't get over that) wedding anniversary--collapsed at church yesterday morning. Just by the sound in Ricky's voice and the feeling I had in my heart--I just knew this was it. He's been in GREAT health his whole life but for the past few years, he's passed out here and there, once hitting his head pretty badly and it's always turned out to be something simple--low potassium, conflicting medicines, dehydration, etc. And the man IS 89-90 years old! Things are going to start happening.

But yesterday was different. His heart actually stopped beating for a few minutes. By the grace of God, it just happened to be in church where there were lots of people there to help and pray. The pastor's wife is a doctor and she managed to get his heart started again through CPR and the paramedic station was just across the street from the church. Now here is a case for going to church even when you've been a little under the weather: He's had a cold for the past week and went to the doctor the other day and got a shot and was feeling somewhat better so he decided to suck it up and go on to church. Had he been at home or anywhere else...I don't think he'd be here.

He's now in CICU at St. Vincent's East and doing relatively well. He still doesn't know that his heart actually quit. He thinks he just passed out again. I'm not sure what's coming or how long he'll be in there but I would greatly covet your prayers. If it's his time, I know there is not a more ready man! There is not a greater Christian man breathing today--he is amazing. And he & Jeff are very close. He is a dearly loved patriarch of his family--that waiting room was so full yesterday of kids, grandkids and great-grandkids each patiently waiting their turn to visit with that dear sweet man. We don't want to lose him, especially not right now but if it does happen, Lord, just help me. Give me the patience, the wisdom and the strength to be a comfort to Jeff and his family. And may YOU be glorified in whatever happens. Let this be used for YOUR good.
